Step 1 Revision
1 Play the “Who is it?” Game. You may help the student on duty to describe a member of the class and get the class to guess who it is. E.g. I'm thinking of a girl. She's wearing a blue blouse and black trousers. She's 13 and sitting near the window. Who is it? Do you know? The class may also ask the student on duty questions in order to make a correct guess, e.g. Is she sitting behind … ?, etc.
2 Revise the difference between the Present Indefinite Tense and the Present Continuous Tense.
Step 2 Read and find
SB Page 68, Part 1. Teach job and fields. Have students ask and answer in pairs. Check answers. (1 B; 2 D; 3 C; 4 A.) Write cook, shop assistant, teacher and farmer under the pictures.
Step 3 Practice
In groups of four, role-play:
1 Get the students to invent a name and a job for themselves. Tell them that they are all passengers on a train. They do not know each other. They must introduce themselves to people around them and hold a short conversation.
2 Get some students to act out their role-play.

SB Page 68, Part 2, Speech Cassette Lesson 119. Books closed! Ask, What do Uncle Wang's machines help farmers do? Write the question on the Bb. Play the tape. Check answer. (One machine helps farmers put rice in bags.) Play the tape again and have students write down what they hear, as in TB Lesson 91, Step 4. Have them volunteer what they hear. Praise the students for their listening. Write the answers on the Bb. Now books open! Students practise reading the dialogue in pairs. Have several pairs read the dialogue for the class.

SB Page 69, Part 1. Practise in pairs, talking about the people in the pictures. The students should use the model given. Have several pairs volunteer to talk about the pictures for the class. They may ask as many questions as they can, e.g. What (work) does he do? Where does he work? How does he go to work? Does he like his work? What's he doing now? Where's he going?
Step 3 Read and write
1 SB page 69, Part 2, Speech Cassette Lesson 120. Students skim the passage for the main idea. (It's Wednesday and people are going to the Great Wall. These people are from many countries.)
2 Play the tape, students listen and repeat.
3 In small groups, hand each group a piece of paper with Now they are getting on a big bus … written at the top of the paper. The first member of the group writes a sentence, and then passes the paper to the right. Then the next student writes a sentence until the last student of the group, who writes the last sentence of the story. The endings do not necessarily have to be logical. They can be just for fun. Have several groups volunteer to read their endings for the class. For example, the first person may write, The people are waiting on the bus. The second person could write, The bus driver is not there, etc.

Step 1 Revision
1 Revise Lesson 114, Step 5 in the TB. Write the names and prices of uncountables (meat, bread, etc.) on one side of the Bb and those of countables (eggs, apples, etc.) on the other.
2 Ask Can I have some meat? etc. Get the students to answer Yes, how much do you want? How many do you want? Repeat with uncountables and countables. Revise Lesson 114, Step 7 in the TB.
Step 2 Presentation
Erase meat on the Bb. Teach Can I have some meat? Answer Sorry, you can't have any meat. There isn't any! Practise in two groups. Erase the other uncountables, one by one. Then practise randomly.
Step 3 Read and act
SB Page 67, Part 1, Speech Cassette Lesson 118. Books closed! Ask What do they sell in the shop? Play the tape. Check the answer (rice, bread, milk, cakes, tea and so on). Have students guess the meaning of and so on. Books open! Play the tape again, students listen and repeat. In pairs, students practise reading the dialogue aloud.
Step 4 Presentation
Ask a student How much is your English book? Help the student to answer My English book is… yuan … fen / cents. Ask several other students How much is your pen/paper/eraser? etc.

1 Revise transportation terms, e.g. by bus/bike/on foot, etc.
2 Tell the students that they are going on holiday. In pairs, have them talk about where they want to go, and how they want to get there. Help the students to say things like, I want to go to Lhasa. Let's go by bus / by air, etc.
Step 3 Read and act
SB Page 66, Part 1, Speech Cassette Lesson 117. Teach when (conj.), rain and health. Books closed! Play the tape. Now ask When does David take the bus? (When it rains.) Books open! Play the tape again, students listen and repeat. In pairs, have students practise the dialogue.
Step 4 Read and make up dialogues
SB Page 66, Part 2, Speech Cassette Lesson 117. Teach the new vocabulary. Books closed! Ask Why does the speaker like to travel by train? Play the tape and let the students listen for the answer (Because it is cheap and safe; he can see a lot, too.) Books open! Choose two students to read the dialogue to the class. In pairs, have the students practise the dialogue. Now have them make up their own dialogue using some of the suggestions in the box. Have several pairs volunteer to read their dialogues for the class.
